kensington vine

this new wine bar opened around the corner from our house a few weeks ago, and it looks to be a hit - every time i walk by in the evening there's a good crowd. unfortunately jay's not a wine drinker, so we haven't stopped in, but i'll try to get over there with some fellow imbibers and provide some details. it's a huge improvement over what used to be in this mini strip mall (a shoe store), and it's kind of exciting to have a restaurant around the corner from the street you live on. the place looks great, too - patio seating, good lighting, and a big wall of wine bottles on display.

what amazed me was the great prices on better quality wines...at least compared to other wine bars

We went in there the other night and had to leave immediately because it was FREEZING in there. Turn down the AC people - we live in SD not on the equator! A guy sitting at the bar had a thin crust pizza that looked excellent. I'll try it again on a hot night this summer, maybe it will be a comfortable temperature inside.

In the last couple weeks have tried both the panini offerings (lunchtime) and pizzas (evenings). Delicious! Have been impressed with the cheese plates and olive plates as well. Definitely a great place - hope they're able to stick it out in our fickle little neighborhood of Kensington.

we were supposed to go with our neighbors 2 weekends ago but we had plans to go to ray at night in north park. they said they really enjoyed it - delicious thin-crust pizza (with salmon toppings), and a good, reasonable wine selection, with ample-sized samples.

also, they mentioned that it felt very relaxed inside - comfortable furniture, non-pushy service. sounds like a great neighborhood wine bar.
