another warm month

we've followed up the warmest october in 26 years with what looks to be the warmest november in 32 years, from a daily maximum temperature standpoint. and it's the first time we've been this far above normal for two straight months in over 20 years. so it was a very unusual stretch, which appears to have ended with a soaker last night that dumped most of its inch of rain in a mere two hours. most of us were sleeping, but a half inch of rain per hour is quite a rainfall rate, especially for san diego in november. i'm guessing we can blame the tropical moisture that this system tapped into for that.
i took the picture above at la jolla shores on tuesday november 25th, when the temperature was well into the 70's there. meanwhile, last weekend schenectady ny (near my hometown) held its annual holiday parade with temperatures in the 20's, and wind chill in the teens. the albany times union has a telling photo set showing what it looks like to sit in that weather and watch a parade; here's one shot:

what's amazing about the photo set is that it depicts the conditions typical of the climate there for the next four months or so.
